Gum in Ohio
By Joe DiDonato

This brick wall advertisement was discovered when one building, that was attached to another, was torn down. The sign was painted as an advertisement for Wrigley Gum, before an addition was put onto the side of the old building. I took these photos so I could visually preserve this nostalgic sign painting. The building is still up, but you never know when or if this work of art will be destroyed.

My guess is it was painted in the 1930's, as that is when the Spearman figure was used by the company. The building was across the street from a train station, in a small Ohio town called Ashtabula, next to some confectionary stores and a hotel. The building with this sign is the only one left standing on that side of the street now. Everything else has succumb to the wrecking ball. Even the train station is only used for storage now.
